We all have books were intimidated by the two most common reasons are because the book is massive or because it’s so popular that the hype is daunting. I have three books like this actually I probably have more then that but these are the ones that immediately sprang to mind.
The Book Thief
There’s two reasons why I haven’t read this insanely popular book. The first is that I’m scared I won’t like it I actually got it from the library like two years ago and read the firs 80 or so pages it was hard to get into. The second reason is how big it is it’s 552 pages and because from what I read of it it was kinda slow. I don’t usually mind reading books that long but I have to really enjoy them and not want to put them down, I just don’t know if I’m going to feel that way about this one.
Anything by Brandon Sanderson
My dad loves Brandon Sanderson’s books he’s one of his favorite authors and he keeps telling me to read his books mostly The Mistborn series. I have read one of his books but the writing wasn’t impressive and the fact that he publishers so many books per year is dubious to me. In my experience the authors who take the most time with their books tend to have the best ones however I do really need to give him another chance. All of his books sound very good and who knows maybe one of them will end up being a new favorite. All of the books in the Mistborn series are quite long so maybe I’ll read them in the summer when I have time to binge a long series.
Even though I read a lot of fantasy I don’t read much high fantasy I’ve said in the past that I can’t get into them and it’s true that there hard to get into. But I’ve only read a few of them not enough to say that I don’t like them however I am intimidated by them I’m not entirely sure why I have enjoyed a few of them. They just seem overwhelming I hate information dupes and fantasy is known for it but I haven’t had any bad experience with the genre so I don’t understand my own logic. It’s time that I get over myself and give the genre a proper chance Sabriel is a classic and fairly lengthy fantasy I need to read one of those and I’m determined to read Sabriel this year.
This is what inspired this list I found out about a book that comes out in june called Tash Hearts Tolstoy, it’s about a girl who loves Tolstoy and makes a web series adaptation of Anna Karenina. You can check out the Goodreads page
to read the full synopsis. I want to tread Anna Karenina before reading it so I’ll appreciate it more but it’s massive it’s like 800ish pagers depending what edition you read and classics are daunting even when there short. I’m very intimated by thss one more so then the others and I’m unsure if I’ll ever read, I might cheat and just watch the movie.
What books are you intimidated by? Have you read any of these, if so what did you think of them? Do long books or classics intimidate you?
